The name of this blog is Soccer Therapy, but it has nothing to do with any kind of physical therapy. I’m originally from Texas, where American football reigns supreme and striking up a conversation about soccer is often a challenge. Soccer Therapy’s roots are actually in a series of emails I was sending to friends as my interest in the sport grew. Now, SoccerTherapy.net is my official online soccer happy place. For the most part, I really don’t have anyone else to tell, but the Beautiful Game is a powerful one, and it fascinates me in so many different ways. Soccer has captivated me more as a cultural phenomena than it has as a sport, and the game has compelled me to start this blog. An excerpt from this excellent Rory Smith article sums it up best:
“But then there were the things I did not know. The best thing about sports journalism is that, often, it is not really about sport at all: the game becomes a prism through which you can see other processes at work. So it is with the story of football in the U.S., which is not really a story about football but one of culture, of technology and society.”
If you are an American soccer fan (not to be confused with an American who is a fan of soccer), this blog is for you. The content of Soccer Therapy focuses primarily on professional soccer in North America and secondarily on the international game. I love visual media, television ads, charts, info-graphics, lists etc. As a result, this blog is about so much more than just written content – and occasionally, I dive into some non-soccer items.
I like writing about all star games, tourneys, events, player acquisitions, theories, “what-if” scenarios, and the business/media side of the game. I am a diehard FC Dallas fan but offer a fair and honest perspective in my writing. I am not delusional and maintain realistic expectations for my club. I will occasionally say “we” when writing about Dallas, but this blog is for more than just FCD fans. As a native Austinite, I keep up with the Capitol City’s own professional soccer club, the Austin Aztex of the United Soccer League. Internationally, it is all about our beloved Yanks (the U.S. National Team) and the growth of the CONCACAF region.

The first ever Soccer Therapy logo (shown at the top of this page), really shows what this blog is all about. Here is an explanation of the thought process that went into it. I encourage any and all readers to give this blog a follow or reply to an article. Tell your friends, give me a shout on Twitter, and maybe catch an MLS match one of these days.
